Urban Campsite Amsterdam Beach Pod

There's a hands-on art installation in Centrumeiland, Amsterdam—Urban Campsite Amsterdam—looking to give beach-goers even more of a chance to fall asleep to the sound of waves past their impromptu afternoon naps. Fourteen architects, designers, and artists created ocean-side dwellings that serve as an art installation by day and rental pods for campers by night. The designers were all given the same assignment: Each pod had to be made with materials that had alternate uses aside from their intended purpose. The result is a micro neighborhood of quirky yurts each depicting the personality of the designer.

People around the world have already flocked to the campsite, which is much more than a handful of shelters. The space features a community herb garden, a local supermarket, a functioning kitchen, a learning spare for DIY workshops, and—the site's central gathering area—a firepit. The pods will be open for viewing (and renting) until August 31st. For more information on how to rent your own beachside designer pod, head over to Airbnb.
