Beverly Hills Buzz: The Mosaic Hotel’s ‘Luxe’ New Look

As befits its reputation, Beverly Hills spoils its visitors with luxury lodgings. In addition to the classic Beverly Hills Hotel, the city flies the flag for the Peninsula, Four Seasons, Montage, Viceroy, Thompson, Luxe and Hilton. Now, Gemstone Hotels & Resorts, which manages the Kelly Wearstler-designed Maison 140, is hoping to become a contender with the newly renovated Mosaic Hotel, a cozy Beverly Hills alternative.

It offers just 49 rooms starting at a spacious 300 square feet. Located on a quiet side street, the hotel is steps away from the luxury department stores on Wilshire Boulevard, as well as the shops and cafes on Charleville, and only a few minutes’ walk to Rodeo Drive.

The London-based property development firm Luxlo (which recently made headlines for selling a Mayfair penthouse for $10,000 per square foot) headed the multi-million dollar redesign of the 1958 hotel building, which became the Mosaic in 2002. Highlights of the new look include tailored contemporary furniture and embroidered silk Fromental wallpaper that echoes the work of David Hockney.

Guest rooms feature Nespresso machines and Fili’Doro linens, and the bathrooms are stocked with Frette robes and Bulgari toiletries. On the deck around the grand piano-shaped pool, which has been refreshed with cabanas and a fire pit, guests can enjoy cocktails and a tapas menu.

To celebrate its makeover, the Mosiac has launched a summer Happy Hour running weekdays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. that includes discounted appetizers and drinks, including the house special "Mosaic Buzz,” a variation on the Prohibition-era Bees Knees that’s made with Botanist gin, lemon juice and honey water. Perhaps the best news: All guests booking online for stays concluded by September 30 get a 35 percent discount on room rates, which start at $450 in peak season.
