LACMA’s New Exhibition Pavilion

In October, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art opens the Lynda and Stewart Resnick Exhibition Pavilion, a 45,000-square-foot glass-and-marble addition to its evolving campus. LACMA inaugurates the Renzo Piano–designed space with “Olmec: Colossal Masterworks of Ancient Mexico” (Oct. 2–Jan. 9), coinciding with this year’s bicentennial of Mexican independence, which shows artifacts from as early as 1400 B.C.

The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA presents “Suprasensorial: Experiments in Light, Color, and Space” (Dec. 12–Feb. 27; moca.org), a landmark show about visual perceptions featuring works by Latin American artists.

Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel’s second season at the L.A. Philharmonic (laphil.com) brings expansive scores such as Olivier Messiaen’s sonically luxuriant Turangalîla symphony (Oct. 14–17).
