Wes Anderson designed bar

How many of us have sat staring at a Wes Anderson film—be it Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, The Royal Tenenbaums, or even The Fantastic Mr. Fox—and wondered desperately “Why can’t my life look like that?” Turns out it can, now that Bar Luce—a boîte in Milan designed by the moviemaker himself—has opened. And good news: the bar effectively mimics the throwback perfection for which Anderson is known.

The new locale is home to details that would fit seamlessly into one of his sets (for good reason): retro Formica tables adorned with metal napkin dispensers, a throwback jukebox nestled next to Steve Zissou-themed pinball machines, kitschy wallpaper depicting local hotspot Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. It’s all topped with an arched ceiling recreating the Galleria’s vaulted glass roof. Overlooking it all: a “perfectly centered schoolhouse clock.”

What does Anderson think? “While I do think it would make a pretty good movie set, I think it would be an even better place to write a movie.”
