It seems airline passengers just can’t catch a break. In addition to holiday surcharges for checked baggage, it now seems that the Port Authority might implement fees for Uber, Lyft, and other rideshare companies transporting passengers to or from the three major airports serving New York City.

If the Port Authority does decide to charge extra, it would be joining many airports around the country that pass fees onto passengers. In Washington D.C., the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority recently added a $4 surcharge per ride, according to The Washingtonian. In Boston, Uber is currently battling a lawsuit over a rather ambiguous $8.75 fee tacked on to rides going to Logan Airport. Others, like LAX, don’t currently allow Uber to pick up people at airports at all, though that is likely to change in the next few months.

A representative for Uber refused to comment on the possibility, stating that there is no plan proposed at this time. A Port Authority statement, which specifies that the issue is in the early stages of review, declares that, “No decision has been made and there is no timeline.” So for now, travelers going through New York can breathe easy.
