The James New York Debuts Public Art Project in SoHo

Art at The James Hotel, New York

Passersby strolling the stretch of New York City’s Sixth Avenue between Grand and Thompson streets can spot a new public art installation outside The James hotel. “Slow Dance and the Daylight” is a mural by Brooklyn-based artist Paul Wackers that “depicts the passage of time” with a series of vividly colored objects like plants and more abstract geometric shapes and lines.

This isn’t the boutique hotel brand’s first foray into the art world—its Art at The James program features local, national and international artists enlivening the public spaces and guestrooms at its Chicago, Miami and New York locations. Arts boutique Grey Area commissioned this installation—the program’s first public-facing—in partnership with The James, with the surrounding SoHo environs in mind. Selfies taken by the mural with the hashtag #jamespublictart will be shared on jamespublicart.com.
