General Store, Rio’s First-Ever Pizzeria-Clothing Shop Opens

Void Meets Vezpa at Rio's First Pizzeria-Clothing Shop

General Store, Rio’s first-ever pizzeria-clothing shop has opened on a residential block in upscale Ipanema, two minutes from Arpoador Beach. The hip boutique unites skater brand Void with beloved pizza chain Vezpa, and allows customers to shop for sneakers and grab a slice all at the same time.

With unfinished concrete walls and a custom wood coffee bar, the shop provides a relaxed space for customers to hang out. On a recent Sunday evening, locals gathered outside over beers; their leashed-up dogs sat patiently under twinkling fairy lights.

Inside, over 50 independent brands fill the racks—everything from Haight beachwear and Cabrón tees, to Poche fanny packs and Bolovo menswear, alongside international labels like Adidas, Nike, and Casio. On the other side of the space, a counter stocks toothbrushes, cigarettes, and candy. Refrigerated cases have Do Bem juice and beer; Vezpa pizza is sold by the slice.

It’s the third retail venture by Void, which was founded in 2004, and is considered Rio’s answer to alt-tastemakers like NYC’s Opening Ceremony, or LN-CC in London. (Like Opening Ceremony, Void also publishes its own magazine; there’s even a small newsstand in the new shop offering indie titles like Huck, Flaunt, and Nin.)

Check out the brand’s inspired Instagram for a peek at the goods, and to learn about future events (the opening party featured DJs, dancing on tables, and plenty of selfies.)
