Behind the Scenes at Canada's Quirkiest Inn

Prince Edward County may be Canada’s hippest new escape. Just two hours east of Toronto on an island that juts onto Lake Ontario, it’s home to stunning landscapes, a clutch of burgeoning wineries that produce spectacular Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, dozens of nouveau country stores, and what may be the country’s quirkiest—and perhaps most charming—little inn.

Owned by artist and gallery curator Tammy Love, the one-suite hideaway is an annex to Hand Works, a hoarder’s paradise that’s equal parts antiques store and handcrafts gallery (by Love’s count, over 600 US and Canadian artists are shown over her two clutter-happy floors). What you’ll find inside: chairs pegged to walls like artwork, collage-inspired paintings by Love herself, and rustic furnishings that make the suite feel perfectly cozy. And that’s to make no mention of the county’s most eclectic hostess herself.

Our favorite part? Across-the-street proximity to Slickers, a can’t-miss ice cream parlor whose flavors channel a timeless countryside appeal (think apple pie and the burnt-marshmallow-inspired Campfire).
