Beagle Channel

Beagle Channel

Named after Darwin’s HMS Beagle, this narrow channel is one of the most important water bodies in the island chain of Tierra del Fuego on the extreme southern tip of South America. Most people experience this beautiful part of the world on short, 4-day cruises from Ushuaia, Argentina to Punta Arenas, Chile. Along the way guests enjoy prime viewing of the snow capped peaks and dramatic landscapes for which the Tierra del Fuego region is so very well known. Even though the Channel is often home to storms and uncertain waters, it is also known as ‘glacier alley’ and is home to many sightseeing opportunities as the ship passes these massive ice flows. A trip through the Beagle Channel may not be at the top of everyone’s travel bucket list, but the experience is truly is unlike anything else on the planet.
