The colonial buildings in Baucau's Old Town have fared better than those in other villages. Its grand, canary-yellow mercado municipal (municipal market) was recently renovated, but is now a government office, so can only be admired from the outside. The Old Town market has been relegated to the roadside; head to the pousada, and the picturesque swimming pool (entry 50cv), fed by a clear natural spring.
