Tirta Empul Temple

This Hindu water temple known for its holy spring waters and unique bathing structure is a destination for religious pilgrims looking to participate in ritual purification. Founded around 962 AD, the temple was built alongside a natural spring that comes from the Pakerisan River and has been attracting Hindus and travelers for generations.
The temple is divided into three distinct parts, which travelers can easily explore. The front yard (Jaba Pura), inner yard (Jeroan) and the central yard (Jaba Tengah). The latter contains two pools and 30 showers and serves as the focal point of this temple’s striking design. While many travelers agree Tirta Empul is one of the more commercial temples, with groups of sometimes aggressive street vendors lined around its exit, others say the traditional fountains, holy prayer sessions and opportunity to bathe in ancient fountains still makes this temple worth the trip.
