Jonker Street

Jonker Street

For foodies, bargain-hunters and people-watchers, Jonker Street in the town of Malacca deserves a prominent place on the itinerary. Jonker Street runs through the heart of Chinatown in Malacca’s city center and was once known primarily for its antique dealers. Those on the hunt for Malaysian artifacts and relics (both authentic and otherwise) will still find these rare items, but the commercial street has evolved to include clothing boutiques, craft shops and restaurants as well.
Lively throughout the week, Jonker Street truly comes alive on Friday and Saturday nights during the must-see night market, complete with street performers and hawker stalls, where visitors can easily piece together a satisfying meal on the cheap (Just remember to bring cash). Be sure to try the chicken rice balls with durian cendol, a Malaysian-style shaved ice, for dessert.
