Stroll Through a Victorian Fort Turned Garden

Overlooking the city of Hamilton and Hamilton Harbour, Fort Hamilton was built by the British in 1870, and it was largely outdated and unnecessary by the time it was completed. However it remains a beautiful, and still intact, example of a polygonal Victorian fort, complete with a moat, underground passageways, and massive 18-ton guns that were never fired in battle. Today the fort is a peaceful park with fantastic views of the harbor. The once-water-filled moat has been transformed into a path-lined woodland garden of bamboo and palm trees, while up top, you’ll find terraced gardens among the ramparts and cannons.
