Kato Zakros, the Valley of the Dead, takes its name from the ancient burial sites in the numerous caves dotting the canyon walls. Its setting is awesome; a long winding road snaking downhill from Zakros through a stunning gorge. Trekking in here is fully marked with well organised trails. Head to Entrance A and park for longer walks. Entrance B after Zakros is an easier route taking just 45 minutes. The stretch between A and B is the most beautiful.
