Jurisics tér

TIME : 2016/2/18 20:14:46

The former market square, where miscreants were put in stocks during medieval times, is one of Hungary’s prettiest. The facade of the red-and-yellow Town Hall , a mixture of Gothic, Renaissance, baroque and neoclassical styles, features three coats of arms: those of Hungary, Kőszeg and Miklós Jurisics himself. The Renaissance House , built in 1668, is adorned with graffiti etched into the stucco. The 1739 statue of the Virgin Mary , in the middle of the square, was paid for by fining blasphemous Lutherans.
