Spanish Steps Tours

Climbing from the lively Piazza di Spagna to the Trinita dei Monti church, the Spanish Steps are unmistakable, gracing countless postcards and immortalized in numerous films, most famously Audrey Hepburn’s Roman Holiday. Built between 1723 and 1725 in a Roman Baroque style, the 138-step staircase is the longest and widest in Europe, constructed from travertine and marble.
Today, the iconic steps are among the city’s most popular tourist sites and also make for a prime meeting place for locals, with bars and cafés clustered around the surrounding square.
As of 2015, the Spanish Steps are undergoing a $1.7 million (€1.5 million) makeover, sponsored by Italian jewelry designer Bulgari, and will be closed for restoration until spring 2016, although a side ramp will provide limited access for tourists from December 7 onwards.
