Architecture Museum of Ljubljana

Of all Ljubljana’s museums, the Architecture Museum of Ljubljana, now the Ljubljana Museum of Architecture and Design, is one of the city’s most unique - a fitting tribute to the capital’s eclectic design ethos. Devoted to showcasing Slovenia’s most celebrated architecture, the museum’s permanent exhibitions display a number of works by significant local and international architects, including sketches, photographs, design plans and model structures.
The museum’s piece de resistance is its vast exhibition of works by celebrated Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik, whose Art Nouveau masterpieces include Ljubljana’s iconic Triple Bridge, the elegant Slovene National and University Library and many of the city’s bridges, riverside promenades and market buildings. As Slovenia’s most renowned architect and a strong proponent of Vienna Secession architecture, viewing Plečnik’s works is a must for anyone with an interest in local architecture.
Since changing location in 1992, the Architecture Museum of Ljubljana is now housed in the restored mansion of Fužine Castle, a grand Renaissance structure located just outside of town. Along with hosting a series of temporary exhibitions and workshops, highlights of the museum also include works by Slovene architects like Ivan Vurnik, Edvard Ravnikar, and Edo Mihevc.
