Cornellà-El Prat Stadium (Estadi Cornellà-El Prat)

The Estadi Cornella-El Prat, also known as RCDE Stadium or Power8 Stadium, is the home of the RCD Espanyol football club in Barcelona, Spain. The stadium is located near the banks of the Rio Llogrebat on the southwestern edge of Barcelona. It is named after two nearby municipalities, Cornella and El Prat. With a capacity of more than 40,000, the stadium was completed in the summer of 2009 and was considered to be one of the best stadiums built in Spain since the 1950s. It was named Venue of the Year in the Stadium Business Awards in 2010, beating out the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium in the United States.
The stadium roof has the appearance of floating over each of the four stands, but doesn’t cover the upper corners. It is covered with solar panels that provide electricity and hot water for the stadium. The stands feature two tiers, with 36 executive boxes and a 270-seat President’s Club located between the first and second tiers. The concourse areas have 27 bars, as well as shops and a club museum. A wall around the perimeter of the stadium has panels that light up in club colors on match days.

Practical Info

The stadium is accessible by Metro, tram and commuter train. The Cornella Centre Metro station is the last stop on line 5 and is about a 15 minute walk from the stadium. Alternatively, visitors can take Tram 1 or 2 to the Cornella Centre or Les Aigues stops, both within a 15 minute walk of the stadium as well. The commuter train, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat, stops a little closer at Station Cornella Riera, which is just a 5 minute walk away. There are also close to 3300 parking posts near the stadium. Tickets to matches can be bought in advance or at the stadium; matches rarely sell out.
