Community Baboon Sanctuary

Through the combined efforts of eight different villages, the Community Baboon Sanctuary is dedicated to protecting and preserving Belize's population of the Black Howler Monkey.

The 18mi (29km) squared reserve in the dense Belize jungle contains hundreds of different trees, vines, and flowers, and in addition to the approximate 1,500 monkeys, the sanctuary is home to anteaters, armadillos, iguanas, turtles, deer, and over 200 different species of birds.

You can enjoy special trails through the forest or canoe rides on the river on guided tours and interact with the monkeys and other animals. The on-site visitors' center and natural history museum are great resources for learning about the environment, the conservation efforts, and of course, the monkeys themselves.
