For Turtles with Secrets

Did you know that diving sites have even better names than thoroughbred race horses? I didn’t. I’ve been out of the loop on this for a long time. The only thing better than dive sites with names like Amberjack Slope, Calabash Cut and Secret Spot are the sea creatures you meet in the deep blue sea.

Secret Spot is one of the most beautiful dive sites in Belize; the reef here is fixed to a long sloping wall, and is nourished by warm currents that basically perform the duties of an organic underwater superhighway. On our dive we came face-to-face with this gorgeous Hawksbill turtle, who didn’t seem to mind posing for photos so long as we kept a respectful distance. This here will get stored away in my memory’s attic as one of the greatest travel experiences of all time. I mean, I don’t know too many people who get to see a creature this impressive on their second dive.
