The ruins of an Inca nunnery and temple dedicated to the Virgins of the Sun – also known as Acllahuasi or Iñak Uyu – occupy an amphitheaterlike valley on the northeast shore where most ferries drop you. It’s constructed of well-worked stone set in adobe mortar and was where chosen girls were presented as an offering to the sun and moon.
Half of the site has been reconstructed.
