Fortaleza de São José de Macapá

TIME : 2016/2/19 14:48:54

The Portuguese built the large stone Fortaleza de São José de Macapá between 1764 and 1782 to defend the north side of the Amazon against French incursions from the Guianas. It makes for a reasonably interesting visit, with cavernous barracks and impressively thick walls, yet there’s bizarrely little in the way of plaques or information.
