The trouble with holidaying in the most family-friendly islands on the planet is that there are families everywhere.

Happy, high-pitched squeals and Olympic-standard splashing isn't everyone's cup of kava. If you prefer your tropical menus to be nugget-free and your deckchair downtime to come without crab-races, it can be hard to find the serenity in big resorts.

In response to a growing chorus of holidaymakers asking for places to chill without children, Fiji is now offering a host of chic, new, adults-only sanctuaries.

And the best part is some of the new bars and beach clubs are set within resorts Aussie families already love, meaning parents can take time out together and child-free guests can unwind in peace.

"Not everyone appreciates other people's kids' enthusiasm," says Tourism Fiji's Carlah Walton.

"Fiji is where happiness finds you, which means something different for everybody. If you're looking for a more serene and relaxing environment you will certainly find that in Fiji's adults-only offerings."

Rocks bar and restaurant

Vomo Island Resort

Only a month after opening, Rocks bar is already causing resort-envy as even locals are calling it the best spot in the South Pacific to watch the sun go down. With a soundtrack of soft waves on sand, watch the sky turn pink from this oceanfront perch, where cocktails are taken shoeless on day beds.

The spectacularly located bar and restaurant is the first stage of a new adults-only guest precinct which will include a new swimming pool by mid-2016.

Set 10 minutes by seaplane from Nadi in the Mamanuca Islands, the resort has recently spent $5 million on updating its beachfront and hillside villas.

"Guests with children can drop them to the Kids' Village where they have their own restaurant, while adults spend time at our uber-cool sunset bar," says Vomo's Karen Marvell.

"We can provide adults-only offerings within the same holiday experience that you've brought your family along to."

Waitui Beach Club

Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa

A champagne bar, yoga classes, a personal trainer and mini-gym, swim-up bar, sunken lounges, four-poster day beds, a nutritionist-devised menu and chill-out tunes add up to one very grown-up day at the beach.

At the brand new Waitui Beach Club, the pool toys are for adults and the fizzy drinks are brought to you by Verve Clicquot. Newly built amid the sprawling beachfront gardens of the Sofitel, the Club has a super-sized pool, luxe cabanas and a DJ by night.

The unique concept space – open to Accor's Club guests – is the first of its kind on the main island of Viti Levu, says Sofitel general manager Alan Burrows.

"Waitui Beach Club gives time-poor couples an experience you may have had to go to an island for in the past, ensuring our guests spend less time travelling and more time by the pool," says Burrows.

"The couples and singles markets are on the rise and we hope to appeal to singles travelling with friends, solo travellers, honeymooners or couples escaping on a short break."

Likuliku Lagoon Resort

Malolo Island

With Fiji's only over-water bungalows, Likuliku is already ahead when it comes to a unique selling point – but to many, it's the complete absence of other people's kids that gets it over the line when it comes to choosing a Pacific getaway.

With a minimum age of 17 required, there will be no noise above the breeze rustling in the coconut palms here. With no rollaways and only a handful of twin bed accommodation, this is a resort totally focused on loved-up couples.

Order a choir and orchid tiara for your vow renewal ceremony, or opt for a duo to serenade your private dinner if your tastes are lower key.

Grand bathtubs with ocean views, daily canapes, degustation menus, plunge pools and the option to take a day trip to one-couple-at-a-time Honeymoon Island cements Likuliku on the romance radar.

"The luxury niche market of adults-only resorts has quietly grown and emerged based on a demand – even people with children want to experience time as just a couple," says Likuliku's Samantha Muspratt.

Koro Sun Resort and Rainforest Spa

Savusavu, Vanua Levu

Though the remote and expansive Koro Sun Resort has a kids' club, nannies and a waterslide pool, it is also home to Fiji's first and only floating bures, which are adults only.

Floating on pontoons above the coral garden-filled lagoon, the 35-square-metre new Edgewater Bures come with a two-person kayak tied to your private deck.

The separate accommodation sanctuary for holidaymakers without children means you won't have to grin and bear noisy, pint-sized neighbours in next-door bungalows. The resort says its child-free havens give guests the option to be as accessible or as exclusive as they wish during their stay.

"While the adults-only trend certainly has contributed to an increase in bookings at the resort, it's not the only reason for the success of the floating bures," a Koro spokesperson said. "Edgewater Floating Bures are a new and unique accommodation offering in Fiji."

An adults-only pool adds to the feeling of being in a resort within a resort, with outdoor rainforest massages taking the peace and quiet to another level.

Disconnecting is easy here: located a 50-minute flight from the main island of Viti Levu, it's TV, phone and WiFi-free accommodation underlines the resort's far-flung position in the Koro Sea.

Even more remote – Qamea adults-only boutique resort is an 80-minute flight over the coral reefs of the northern islands to Taveuni. After a 20-minute drive and a boat trip, your child-free castaway experience begins.

New yoga retreats have just begun at the resort after a yogi instructor took up permanent residence late this year.
