Last week engineers in Italy succeeded in setting the Costa Concordia cruise ship upright, 20 months after it ran aground off the island of Giglio, killing 32 people. The operation took 18 hours but here you can see the whole process condensed into just one minute. It wasachieved using cables and metal water tanks to roll the 114,000-ton ship onto a platform.

The next task is to assess the ship and, where necessary, repair damage before it is towed away to be destroyed.
