Cruising the Baltic in style

TIME : 2016/2/26 10:45:46

If you’re considering a European cruise but looking for something different to the usual cruises in the Mediterranean, then how about looking further north and east to the Baltic? MSC Cruisesare offering two great opportunities to explore the region, departing from Copenhagen, the beautiful city that inspired many a Hans Christian Andersen fairytale.

Hop aboard MSC Musica and you could be on your way to a northern European adventure that takes in Estonia and Russia, perhaps the highlight of which is a stop at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of St. Petersburg – Russia’s second city and the jewel in the Baltic crown. There you can take a tour that incorporates sites such as the Hermitage, Peterhof Palace and Gardens, and Catherine’s Palace, before calling in at Nevsky Prospekt for a little retail therapy and some souvenirs to take home.Alternatively, the elegant MSC Poesia – a slightly larger and younger vessel – offers similar ports of call, albeit in a slightly different order. Regardless of the itinerary or vessel you choose, the same magical destinations are on offer and these will allow you to discover that the Baltics still retains its imperial charms, yet combines its history with a thriving arts and entertainment scene.

St. Petersburg

As well as St. Petersburg, Tallinn in Estonia – with its stunning Medieval architecture and cobbled squares – is another highlight not to be missed, as isKiel in northern Germany – famous for its sailing events – which serves as a great location for exploring a host of attractions and other destinations; from here, for instance, you could visit the cosmopolitan city of Hamburg.

Kiel

So why not opt for something different this year? If you are a seasoned cruiser, then take a look at the Baltics for a unique experience and a change to the more usual cruising options.
