Visitors to Xi'an are often surprised by the wide range of entertainment options available in the city. Although most people come to see the world-famous attractions, they often end up staying longer than planned to spend time shopping, clubbing, trekking and watching cultural performances.

It is easy to spend several days exploring Xi'an's entertainment options and travelers can start the day with a trip to the local hot springs, before shopping at exclusive boutiques and markets, hiking up a mountain and rounding off the day by watching a traditional show at a theater.

One of the best times to visit the city is during one of the vibrant festivals such as Chinese New Year, which is celebrated with plenty of feasting as well as parades through the streets and fireworks.

Huaqing Hot Springs

Located 35kms outside of Xi'an, these refreshing hot springs are said to be the place where Yang Guifei, the consort of the Xuanzong emperor wife, committed suicide. Surrounded by natural beauty, this is a great place to relax and unwind for a while.

Hua Shan Mountain

This Taoist sacred mountain is an ideal place for hiking. It takes around five hours to reach the top and those who rise to the challenge will be rewarded with breathtaking views across the city and surrounding mountain ranges.

Qin Dynasty Street

Take a walk along this pretty street to discover the houses that have been reconstructed in the Qin Dynasty style. Lined with a number of interesting old buildings, this is a good place for history buffs as the houses have been faithfully restored.

Tang Dynasty Cultural Show

Staged in the Tang Theater, this vibrant show features traditional dances, music, and stunning costumes, all in an exquisite setting. Nightly performances represent the lifestyle of local people in ancient times and are a must for culture vultures.

Nightlife

There is plenty to do in Xi'an after the sun sets and many of the main attractions such as the Bell Tower are best viewed after dark as they are lit up. There are plenty of bars and clubs to be found, especially in the Muslin quarter, while some visitors choose to relax by watching a movie at one of the city's cinemas.

Banpo Museum

Located some six kilometers east of Xi'an in Bango Village, Banpo Museum features a large number of informative displays containing ancient remains such as utensils, pottery items, adult burial pits and infant burial jars.
