Known as the Oriental Las Vegas, Macau is a paradise for gamblers as there are a large number of hotels to be found here. However, the area features plenty of clean streets and picturesque gardens to explore.

While shoppers will be busy bargain hunting in the many malls and markets, those who want to spend time in the fresh air will be able to take part in outdoor pursuits such as hiking, karting and golf.

Once the sun sets, visitors to Macau head to one of the area's restaurants to enjoy a meal before exploring the vibrant nightlife options. Many of the best bars and clubs can be found in Macau's leading casinos and hotels and stay open long into the night.

Casinos

There are a large number of casinos located on Cotai and perhaps the best known is located inside the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel. Many of the casinos here are modeled on those in Las Vegas and offer a wide range of popular table games and slot machines.

Water sports

Head to Bamboo Bay on the island of Coloane and take part in activities such as windsurfing and surfing activities. There are two main beaches here, which are both good places for swimming and sunbathing.

Hiking

The hilly area in the center of Coloane Island is ideal for hiking as there are a number of trails to follow. These trails vary in length and difficulty and are great places to explore during the week. However, these trails can become rather crowded at weekends.

Golf

Macau offers golfers some of the most picturesque courses in the whole of Asia to play on. Macau Golf and Country Club is the most popular course here as it is equipped with a full range of facilities and also offers stunning views of the Pearl River and Hac Sa Beach.

Karting

There is a large karting track located at the southern end of Cotai, which can be reached by bus from both the Macau Peninsular and Taipa. Those who feel the need for speed will be able to race around this professionally designed circuit.

Theater

Culture lovers will find a wide range of entertainment options as Macau theater combines both oriental and Western arts. Plays and musical performances are held regularly in a range of venues including the D Pedro V Theatre, AV Almeida Ribeiro and the large theater in the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre.
