Family Friendly Attractions in Jaipur

TIME : 2016/2/24 11:57:36
With its combination of high-art treasures and desolate desert forts, Jaipur may not seem like a top family destination, but with a bit of creativity and a gutsy sense of adventure, you’ll do more than simply keep the kids entertained – you’ll give them the trip of a lifetime.

Animal encounters

Forget the usual zoos and aquariums that cities offer – Jaipur goes one better with unique and exotic animal encounters. There are energetic monkeys who use an ancient temple as their playground, and painted elephants who patiently communicate with visitors before transporting them through the jungle.

Situated 10 kilometres outside central Jaipur, Galtaji Temple is worth making the pilgrimage to. Built into the surrounding mountains, it’s famed for the sacred, natural springs running through it – and it’s in these pools that monkeys play. Adults will be in awe of the whole experience, while children will love to see the monkeys jumping around.

Elephant Wala

After a lesson in elephant sign language to say hello and a banana to cement your friendship, you’ll be riding high on the back of a majestic Indian elephant. Children will delight in the whole experience, from painting designs on the elephant’s trunk, to riding with an experienced guide, and cooking chapattis for a hungry herd.

Science and discovery

Jaipur has long been a centre of scientific importance; the Jahal Mantar observatory was established at the start of the 18th century, and with its giant astronomical instruments, it’s a fascinating place for adults and older children. Little ones will be better entertained at the science park, designed by educationalists to inspire practical exploration through play. Science Park

With gigantic, model dinosaurs roaming the land and intriguing equipment to climb on, touch, and play with, Jaipur’s Science Park is a great place for sparking curiosity and developing early scientific knowledge in young children. Special workshops and events are put on for the local community and visitors.

Indoor play

When the desert heat and city chaos all gets too much, head into one of the large, air-conditioned malls for some respite. Featuring soft play centres and entertainment stations as well as the usual food halls and shops, Jaipur’s malls are ideal for keeping everyone happy.

Kids of all ages will love the video game entertainment centre at this modern mall, and you can grab a coffee and take the weight off your feet. If you’ve got fractious tots in tow, head to Fun City within the mall, where there are play areas and rides for babies and toddlers.

Family dining

Whether you’re introducing your little ones to Indian flavours, or you just need a quick pizza to satisfy hunger, Jaipur has some memorable family dining experiences on offer. Out in desert resorts, alfresco restaurants put on full cultural events, while many eateries provide some sort of traditional entertainment alongside the food.

Less a restaurant and more a cultural theme park, Chokhi Dhani is a great family experience. Lit by fire in the evening, you’ll be entertained with folk dances and puppet shows while you sample Indian cuisine, including mild bites and sweet treats for the kids. You can even hop on a camel between mains and dessert.

Indiana

Run by an American ex-pat, Indiana is a cheerful fusion of Indian, American, and European cuisine, so if you have a fussy family with different tastes, it’s ideal. Traditional Rajasthani dancers and accompanying live music provide an Indian flavour – even if the children opt for chips and ice-cream.
