Hyderabad is well known for its delectable cuisine. Dishes have a strong Mughal flavor, and locals have a great passion for food, similar to the Mughals. Meat dishes are prominent, and the pounded meat dish of haleem is the most popular dish in the area.

Hyderabadi biryani (a rice dish) is not just a local specialty, but is enjoyed throughout the country. This delicious blend of rice and mutton or chicken is a staple in Indian cuisine and there are more than 26 varieties of the dish in total. Other popular dishes in Hyderabad include kulcha (a bread), pakora (a fried snack) and korma (a mild curry). Deserts include sheer payasam (a sweet rice dish) and badam kajali (almond sweets).

The city has a varied dining scene and along with the traditional restaurants there are international restaurants, fast food outlets, pizza houses and ice cream parlors.

Himayat Nagar
