Bali Marathon 2015 Results

Gianyar (Bali, Indonesia), August 30th, 2015.

Increasingly popular in Bali, BII Maybank Bali Marathon was run on 30th August 2015 to cheers from an audience along the banjars (small communities) in Gianyar village encouraging participants as they raced from the start line, with the first runners leaving at 5 a.m. Eventually Mbogo Elijah Mwaniki from Kenya entered the front in the last 10 meters, to win the Full Marathon in 2 hours 17 minutes and 16 seconds over a distance of 42.195 km (full marathon / FM).  Mbogo brought down the three-year dominance of Kennedy Kiproo Lilan who was runner-up this year.

5,076 participants from 37 nationalities were listed in various races including the 42 km, 21km, 10k, and Children's sprint. A total of 1,214 participants in the category of Full Marathon (42km), 2,051 participants in the category Half Marathon (21km) (more than 60% of the participants were first-time marathon runners) a total of 1,757 participants in the category of 10K (more than 800 participants first time runners) followed by 40 participants in the category of wheelchair run, where the disabled yet athletic runners added to the excitement and spirit of marathon.

The BMBM 2015 was held in a scenic rural area of Bali, around Bali Safari & Marine Park Gianyar, with its sunrise, rice fields, hilly roads, with locals in colourful costumes providing community friendliness and entertainment to runners and spectators alike. This feature is one of the attractions that make the event such a popular choice for runners from all over the Globe.

The event started at 5am with the majority of runners from Indonesia. One of them mentioned that joining this event encouraged him to live a healthier lifestyle. "I had to maintain a healthy diet in preparation for this race, to keep my body fit," said Khadad Yudha Prawira, participant in Full Marathon, from Jakarta. This is in line with the goals of BMBM, among them to promote healthy lifestyle.

President Director BII Taswin Zakarya mentioned that BMBM has become one of the most iconic marathon events, a pioneer of marathons in Indonesia, which received international certification last year. Entries had to be capped when they passed the 5,000 mark.

Aside from being a sports event, BMBM 2015 showcases Bali’s rich culture and majestic scenery. This year, in tune with the mission of humanising financial services, the BMBM 2015 corporate social responsibility (CSR) supports the economic empowerment of the disabled community and improvement of education, especially for Gianyar district, the marathon venue.
