Bali Shopping Guide - Find where to shop and what to buy

TIME : 2016/2/24 13:49:50

Shopping in Bali is fantastic with an abundance of markets offering inexpensive locally made goods coupled with modern shopping centers filled with brand name fashion labels. Expect to pay normal prices for international brands while locally made goods are relatively inexpensive.

The main tourists spots have the most shops and malls such as Discovery Kartika Plaza in Jalan Kartika. The large sprawling mall is home to most well-known brands as well as having some great local boutiques offering relatively inexpensive clothing and souvenirs.

The beachside markets are the most fun and provide a Balinese feel with casual street stalls lined along the sand. You will find everything from locally made jewelry to clothing and home wares.

Kartika Discovery Mall

Located in Jalan Kartika adjacent to the Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel, Discover Kartika Plaza is a large air-conditioned shopping complex that has a wide selection of international brands including designer labels such as Gucci, Guess and Prada. The shopping mall offers visitors a welcome relief from the hot weather outside and a great opportunity to shop. There is also an amusement arcade, cinema and bowling alley to entertain the whole family.

Nusa Dua

Nusa Dua is an exclusive area that is home to countless five-star resorts, expensive restaurants and high-end shops. There are fashion boutiques, stores selling handmade jewelry and local art galleries. If you don't mind spending some money then Nusa Dua is the place to go.

Geneva Handicraft Centre

The famous Geneva Handicraft Centre is found in Kerobokan and is one of the best places to find home wares and handicrafts at great prices. All prices are fixed so there is no bargaining but everything is already cheap. The large warehouse styled showroom has countless rows of merchandise that will have shopaholics in awe. International delivery can be organized if you buy too much to take home with you.

Kuta Square

Kuta Square is a fantastic shopping area with an array of name brand shops selling fashion, jewelry and electronics. There are numerous surf brands here including Billabong, Quicksilver and Rip Curl as well as more conservative brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren and Gucci. The prices are what you would expect for name brand apparel. There are a few shops selling locally produced souvenirs and clothing, which is generally cheap.

Bali shopping tips

Shopping in Bali can be great fun, with many beachside stalls and markets offering unique handmade goods that can be bartered for. Bargaining the price down at local shops is mandatory and provides an extra bit of excitement to the purchasing process. The larger malls with international shops don't bargain on price although throughout the year there are various end of season sales which provide some good deals.
