Taman Narmada: Lombok

TIME : 2016/2/25 13:28:31

With any visit to Lombok a must-see on the sister island to Bali is the spectacular and spacious tourism attraction of Taman Narmada. When visiting here allow yourself a few hours to explore all the park has to offer and not just the main objects within. Located roughly 11 kilometres east of Mataram and the best time to visit is in the months of May to August, when the climate is perfect. Taman Narmada was built by King Anak Agung Gede Ngurah Karang Asem in 1727.

This famous tourist attraction is a miniature replica of the summit of Gunung Rinjani and its Crater Lake. Interestingly the park’s name derives from the Narmada River in India. Located within the park is the amazing Pura Kalasa. This temple is used annually for a Balinese ceremony known as Pujawali.

Every time I visit Lombok I more than often go to Narmada Park. I have always found it so peaceful and surreal and especially sitting around the large pool in the grounds. This expanse of water pool represents the Crater Lake on the volcano Rinjani. King Anak Agung Gede Ngurah Karang Asem often ascended Gunung Rinjani whenever he was in Lombok and as old age set-in he created Segara Anakan at Taman Narmada as a representation of the mountain and the lake.

Quite near to the pool you will find a spring whose water is believed to give eternal youth to all dedicated pilgrims to Taman Narmada. The other attraction within Taman Narmada that I found fascinating was the fountain known as Youth Fountain. It is believed that the water gives long life to those who drink the water. However for this to occur must have devoted faith and dedication to Lord Shiva.

Visiting hours are from seven in the morning to six in the evening and there is a small entrance fee. Do take advantage of the guides on offer at the entrance to the park. They a mine of information and really cool guys.
