Last night I went out to Canggu to visit a friend of mine who recently moved out there. My friend said he likes living in the ‘kampung‘ (village), as it is closer to nature, with rice fields all around and the beach close. At night time, Canggu is certainly quiet, the only noises being local dogs and a few motorbikes. One of the favourite places in Canggu, is the Beach House, located at Echo Beach. This place has expanded since I last visited and has a nightly bbq, seafront bar, inside dining area and couches. My friend and I lounge on the large bamboo couches and talked about travel for a couple of hours. Sometimes going over a past trip with someone, helps to rekindle the excitement, one felt years before.
A large chalkboard inside the restaurant touts the seafood available. I decided to go for the Bombay Beef Curry, which was large and tasty. Not being brought up on curry, it took me many years to get used to it, but curry (in India, ‘garam masala‘) is simply a mixture of spices, so curry can have a very different taste, depending on where you try it.
