Tokyo DisneySea is an exciting theme park based around the general theme of waterways of the world. Most of the attractions have elements relating to this theme. There are actual water craft like gondolas, steamers, and submarines, and there are fanciful rides such as blowfish carrying shells that hold passengers and a playground in an underwater grotto.

DisneySea has quite a few “thrill rides” which are targeted to a young adult audience, but there are attractions appropriate to all ages. Attractions are grouped in theme areas with restaurants, gift shops, and shows related to that area. Therefore it is good to plan ahead and decide which areas will be best for everyone in your party.

The main entrance opens onto the theme area Mediterranean Harbor, which has a blend of Italian and Spanish influence in the decor. The central section of the park is Mount Prometheus, the same height as Cinderella Castle in Disneyland, and houses the theme area called Mysterious Island. Moving clockwise around Mount Prometheus from Mediterranean Harbor, you first come to American Waterfront, then Port Discovery, Lost River Delta, Arabian Coast, and finally Mermaid Lagoon.

You can walk to each of the theme areas, but sections are fairly spread out, so it can be more fun to take one of the park rides. Big City Vehicles crosses American Waterfront, and The Electric Railway runs from there to Port Discovery. The Transit Steamer has several ports, including Mediterranean Harbor, the American Waterfront, and Lost River Delta. Consider using these when you want to go to a new theme area.

Japanese weather can be variable. Summer days can be hot and humid. It frequently rains in spring and summer. Winter can have a biting, cold wind. Therefore it is good to balance indoor and outdoor activities, and realize that your plans may change if the weather does. For example, spend some time in the underground section of Mermaid Lagoon when it is especially unappealing to be outside.

There is a lot to see and do in DisneySea. You may want to explore and try a range of attractions from different areas, or you may want to spend your time and focus on one in particular. Whatever you decide, DisneySea is sure to delight with its attention to detail and commitment to excellence.
