Where to shop in the Gold Coast – where to shop and what to buy

It’s pretty hard to deny that one of the most exciting experiences when traveling is seeing how many purchases you can cram into your suitcase on your return.  Filled with sprawling shopping centres, tiny exclusive boutiques and jostling market wares, the Gold Coast won’t disappoint as a destination for shopping.

The shopping centres found in the Gold Coast are expansive and varied. You’ll easily find yourself losing a day or two perusing through rails upon rails of merchandise. Pacific Fair and Robina Town Centre (the largest shopping centre in the Southern Hemisphere) are the most popular amongst locals, while Australia Fair attracts those staying in the north and boasts an extremely tempting food court. If you’re looking for an absolute steal, and don’t mind the crowds so much, then visit Harbour Town to discover discounts galore. Here you will find a cinema, plenty of cafes, rows of shoe stores and an abundance of fashion boutiques.

The Gold Coast’s most popular locations such as Surfers Paradise, Main Beach and Broadbeach are fantastic places for those searching for something unique. The streets are designed so that you may easily flow from one store to the next, with floor-to-ceiling windows hosting fantastic displays and hinting as to what curiosities lie inside. Also, as expected of an Australian coast-side city, the Gold Coast has an abundance of surf shops. From the bigger names such as Billabong, Roxy, Quicksilver and City Beach to the dedicated bikini boutiques such as Sunburn and Seafolly, it’s a beach lover’s dream come true.

 

Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets

 

Everyone loves a good rummage at the markets and Gold Coasters are no exception. While some of the Gold Coast’s more popular locations do have market days, some of the best ones can be found outside of the city centre such as Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets. Held every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evening along The Foreshore, from 5pm until 10pm, this spot plays host to over 120 jostling stalls. The ever popular Art and Craft markets can be a little hard to catch if you aren’t familiar with their schedule, as they vary their location between Coolangatta, Burleigh and Broadbeach every week. Broadbeach claims them on the first and third Sunday of every month, while the second Sunday belongs to Coolangatta and the fourth to Burleigh.

 

Burleigh Heads Village Markets

 

The suburb of Burleigh Heads is also home to another collection of markets beloved by locals, known as The Village Markets. Taking place at the Burleigh Heads State School on the first and third Sunday of every month, The Village Markets are a great place to search for bargain buys. From boho clothes to local crafts, The Village Markets have transformed into a creative hub for resident fashionistas. Moving to Paradise Point Parklands on the fourth Sunday of every month, exploring these lively market stalls is time well-spent.
