Being the capital city of Tasmania, Hobart is particularly easy to get around and there is plenty of public transportation available. Due to its status as an island nation, Hobart is blessed with a maritime climate with extreme temperature changes. While it tends to be rather cold in the winter, the weather never reaches freezing, and it can be very hot during the summer months.
The months of March, April and May are the best times to visit as the weather is cool and dry. Summer runs from December to February and this is also a good time to visit, although the temperature often rises to 21°C during this time and rain showers are not unknown.
Hobart is a small city and most of the attractions can be reached on foot from the city center. However, there is also an extensive public bus system which is run by Hobart Metro. Routes run all over the city, and most buses depart from the Metro City Bus Station, which is next to the main Post Office.
It is possible to take a bus from Hobart International Airport (HBA), and the journey from the airport into the city center takes around 15 minutes. Taxis also wait outside the main airport entrance and can be taken to destinations in and around Hobart.
