Free Things to Do in Tasmania

by .

Mount Wellington
If you have a car, the drive to Mount Wellington is a mere 20 minutes from Hobart. Once there, take advantage of the summit for a picturesque view of Hobart city and the Derwent River. Bush walking trails are plentiful if you are the type of person up for a hike.

Hobart Beaches
Spending a day or just a morning or afternoon at the beach is a very free and typical Australian thing to do. While it is not known for having the best beach culture, Hobart does offer up some beaches to lounge around on in the summer months. Catching a wave is also an option if you love surfing. Head over to Clifton Beach, Long Beach, Seven Mile Beach or Short Beach.

Bellerive Beach Park
Bellerive is a quiet place to hang out outside of Hobart with great beaches. At the Bellerive Beach Park, you can relax and have a barbie, or go for a walk from Bellerive to Howrah beach along the Clarence Foreshore Trail.

Free Things to Do in Launceston

Launceston is another major city in Tasmania located on the northern shore of the island.

Other Free Things to Do in Tasmania

Outside of the two main cities of Tasmania, you can stop off in Port Arthur, a former convict settlement with a tragic recent past. Cradle Mountain is a location that provides a great walking destination and gorgeous scenery.

This is a working list. If you have something that should be added, please leave a comment.
