Fiji Food and Dining Guide - Restaurants, where to eat, and more

TIME : 2016/2/24 14:02:40

Fiji really excels when it comes to dining and the quality of the food in the restaurants scattered around the islands is consistently high. While the towns of Nadi and Suva offer the widest selection of restaurants and cuisines, tasty treats can be found everywhere in Fiji.

In addition to local Fijian cuisine, diners will also find European, Indian and Chinese dishes in Fiji. Traditional Fijian cuisine consists of staple ingredients such as fish, shellfish, rice, breadfruit and yams, and dishes are usually seasoned to taste with salt, lemon juice or spicy chilies.

Food lovers will want to try meke, a traditional South Pacific feast where dishes of prok, seafood, and vegetables in coconut milk are steamed in an earthen oven called a lovo. The feast is followed by traditional dancing and local stress-diminishing liquor also known as kava.

Suva

Lovers of Indian food will find a number of restaurants serving authentic dishes at reasonable prices. There are also some upscale restaurants here serving traditional Fijian cuisine, with others that enable you to munch on fish and chips while gazing at scenic views of the waterfront or the botanical garden.

Nadi

Most of the restaurants here specialize in fresh seafood and vegetable dishes, cooked in the traditional Fijian style. There is a wide range of restaurants to choose from, with prices to suit every budget. Diners will also find restaurants serving Italian food and international cuisine.

Lautoka
