Serving up street food: Delancy's Meals on Wheels

Setup at the same road side spot for more than four decades, Delancy's Meals on Wheels is always ready for lunch.

Serving up street food: Delancy's Meals on Wheels Across the way from a long stretch of beach on West Bay Street, Nassau, Bahamas and down the road from Caves Village, a quaint shopping plaza, stands a little silver meal wagon owed by Richard and Andrea Delancy. They call it “Delancy’s Meals on Wheels”.  From this makeshift restaurant the couple sells hearty meals such as a variety of chicken dishes, barbecue ribs and pork chops with various sides.  Their specialty soups are concocted from earthy ingredients such as peas and potatoe. And when in season, they do a mean crab soup.

This little black wagon is the most recent reincarnation of their meal counter that has occupied the same spot for the past 47 years. Richard’s parents initially operated the food truck, and now he and his wife of 21 years run the operation. They took over after Richard’s parents died, inheriting a band of faithful customers from the neighborhood. In fact, out of town customers return after many years to the little wagon to visit whenever they are in town.
