Jackie Collins won't stray far from books, beaches and a good bed when on holiday.

WHICH WAS YOUR BEST HOLIDAY?

In the Christmas of 2012 I took my entire family to Nassau in the Bahamas and we stayed at the Ocean Club. Christmas lunch out by the aquamarine sea and white sand was unforgettable.

AND THE BEST HOTEL YOU'VE STAYED IN?

The Dorchester in London. It's like coming home for me; they anticipate my every need. They have several fantastic restaurants and serve a fabulous afternoon tea which includes scones with jam and cream and delicious pastries, plus the suites, which have plenty of closet space and very comfortable beds, overlook Hyde Park.

WHAT DO YOU ALWAYS TAKE WITH YOU?

My laptop, iPhone, the current book I'm working on and credit cards are musts.

WHAT'S YOUR BEST PIECE OF TRAVEL ADVICE?

Pack light - less is always more. Pack clothes you can roll and plastic cleaner bags prevent any garment from creasing.

AND YOUR WORST EXPERIENCE ON HOLIDAY?

When I was 13 my mum took me to Trouville in France and I saw a woman dragged into the sea and dunked by several old crones dressed in black. I asked a woman what was going on; she informed me that the girl had had sex with one of the women's husbands and was being punished!

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO NEXT?

Bali looks so beautiful and romantic - I'd love to spend a couple of weeks just watching the water, eating the fantastic food and writing my new book. Back to Paris, because the flea market on the outskirts is my favourite place in the world. And back to the Bahamas for another fantastic family vacation. Sun, sand and fun times for all.

Jackie Collins' latest book, Confessions of a Wild Child, published by Simon & Schuster, is out now.
