Concerts on the Coast

When you think of Marbella, you think of the beaches, the nightlife, the parties and the great cuisine that it has to offer but there’s something else Marbella is known for that not so many people are aware of… its concerts!

Whether it’s in the grand stadium of the Puerto Banus bullring, one of the top hotels such as the Puente Romano, a celebrity filled Beach club like Sala Beach, or the new concert venue on the beach in Marbella (Playa Pinillo), many musicians and stars have entertained locals and visitors looking for events in Marbella for many, many years.

Some of the greatest performers, including Elton John, Simply Red, Seal, Gloria Estefan, Rod Stewart and Julio Iglesias, have showcased their talents here in Marbella.  However,  for the younger age groups Marbella has also proven to be a popular venue for very current artists; just last year Peter Andre and Tom Jones both sang to sold out concerts and Jamie Cullum played to fans in the Castillo de Souhail in Fuengirola.

2012 is no different and there’s a whole host of stars warming up their vocal chords in anticipation of performing in Marbella.

• The Queen of Disco, Gloria Gaynor will be performing all her well-known hits at the Puente Romano Hotel on 7th July. With musical successes including I Will Survive, Never Can Say Goodbye and I Am What I Am, Ms Gaynor’s concert is sure to be fabulous and will also include the voices of disco soul group Sister Sledge!

  • Glam Rock legend Bryan Ferry will be taking to the stage to sing all his classics such as Slave to Love, Let’s Stick Together and The Price for Love. Fans will love this rocking concert also at the Hotel Puente Romano in Marbella on 20th July.   • Not one to be missed is the Grammy Award winning Queen of Funk Chaka Khan who will undoubtedly wow crowds at her concert on August 14th. Her signature hits such as I’m Every Woman, Ain’t Nobody and I Feel For You will have fans up from their seats and singing along as soon as the music starts.   • Finally, the most exciting concert taking place this summer is the Starlite Festival - Spain’s very first music and food festival – with 14 concerts taking place over 30 days and including some of Spain and the world’s top artists such as Julio Iglesias, George Benson and Hugh Laurie.   Starting on 13th July to 14th August, tickets range from €30 to €675 depending on the type of seat and the performer and are available from Ticketmaster or El Corte Ingles. The concert will be at La Cantera, the amphitheatre above Sierra Blanca and there will also be top DJ’s playing hours of music and the very best gastronomy with Paco Roncero’s El Bulli Catering!

What more could we ask for – sun, sea, sangria and great music…Marbella really is the place to be this summer!
