Chicago in Summer

TIME : 2016/2/25 14:33:45

During no season is Chicago at its best more so than in summer. It’s the height of tourist season, but June through August also offer the most to see and do. From neighborhood street festivals and free concerts in Grant Park to farmer’s markets, boating, swimming, and a whole host of other outdoor activities, you’ll find plenty to keep you busy during a long summer weekend in Chicago.

Average summer highs range from 80-84°F with lows varying from 61-65°F. Though the occasional cold front comes through, most nights are hot and humid and temps can sometimes reach into the mid-90′s. June and August also see several rainy days and thunderstorms are possible all summer long.  Due to the heat and unpredictability of rain, summer style in Chicago is all about comfort – shorts, jeans and casual dresses are the norm. Just don’t forget a cardigan for chillier nights, sunglasses, and an umbrella if the forecast calls for rain.

Summer in Chicago offers a plethora of activities, both indoors and out. Beat the heat in city’s many museums, or on a sightseeing bus tour, or enjoy outdoor summer fun like farmers markets, picnics and street festivals. Summer is also the time to get out on the water and go boating or kayaking, or to just lay on the beach and work on your tan.

Several festivals and events take place during Chicago’s summer. In addition to smaller neighborhood food, music and art fests, there’s the 4th of July, Taste of Chicago, the Air and Water Show, Lollapalooza, the Gay Pride Parade, and Market Days, to name just a few.
