Famous Welcome to Las Vegas Sign to Get Parking AreaHallelujah! After all these years of watching visitors to the city park illegally and dart in and out of traffic to get a picture of the iconic “Welcome to Las Vegas Sign,” Clark County is finally going to do something about it.

Commissioners on Tuesday reportedly approved a plan that would create a legitimate parking area next to the sign. The project, which is budgeted for a half-million dollars, will create a dozen parking spaces, including some handicap reserved, as well as space for a tour bus or stretch limo.

The project also calls for 25 palm trees, taken from other median areas on the Strip, to be planted just behind the sign to add to the Strip backdrop of the sign, which includes Mandalay Bay, the Luxor, the Tropicana and all resorts north of the sign.

Hopefully, they’ll have the parking area ready for the upcoming 50th anniversary of the sign, which was designed by Betty Willis in 1959.

Now, if only they could do something about all the power wires connected to the sign.
