Danish brewing company Mikkeller got its start in the home-brewing world, but started to gain international attention after its Beer Geek Breakfast, which combined an oatmeal stout with French-pressed coffee, caught the attention of beer (and breakfast) enthusiasts. The growing company now offers a mind-boggling array of beers, along with distilled spirits and even wine (see Beer Geek Riesling.)

Mikkeller’s global empire includes locations in Copenhagen (including a barbecue joint called WarPigs), Reykjavik, Barcelona, Tokyo, Bangkok, San Francisco, Seoul, and Stockholm. And the brewing sensation’s next outpost will be in downtown Los Angeles.

The L.A. bar and restaurant will be co-owned by Chuck Stilphen, a founder of Oakland beer mecca the Trappist, who also helms Mikkeller’s San Francisco location. Stilphen told Eater LA that he’ll be collaborating with Mikkeller founder Mikkel Borg Bjergsø on the Los Angeles spot, which will take over a vacant site in the rapidly revitalizing area.

As Mikkeller has grown, the company has tapped into the worldwide brewing community for collaborators, teaming up with other breweries to produce new original brews as well as selling the world’s best beers alongside their own grog in their bars and retail locations (including an online shop). The new bar and restaurant in Los Angeles will have space for 50 taps and will also offer lunch and dinner, as well as a morning coffee bar.
