“I’m a jock at heart in mes talons,” says Gaby Basora, the designer behind the much-loved New York City brand Tucker, whose fans include Maggie Gyllenhaal and Leanne Shapton.

So it’s no surprise Basora decided to collaborate with the Brazilian skateboarder and artist Fabio Tirado, who is known for repurposing old skateboards into fashion accessories. Exclusively for Tucker, he’s created stripy buttons that Basora’s using on colorful cotton tops (available in January on tuckernyc.com).

“I love the beauty of recycling the fierce energy of the boards and merging that with the built-to-last quality of a Tucker blouse,” she says.

Though Basora’s known for her silk prints and sweetly feminine silhouettes, this isn’t the first time she’s drawn a line between Tucker and athleticism. In 2013, BMX racing sisters Jade and Hazel Altheide starred in a short film Basora made, featuring flouncy tunics and floral shifts on a BMX track in New Mexico. And this past spring, Basora ran the Paris half marathon wearing—what else?—a Tucker blouse.
