Flaunting designer labels used be reserved for Louis Vuitton handbags and Chanel perfume. Now it appears to have hopped the fence from fashion to the confectionary arts. After its online debut in 2012, designer candy store Sugarfina quickly gained cult status among candy freaks for its mature spins on nostalgic childhood treats, like peach Bellini gummies, champagne marshmallows, and matcha green tea caramels.

The concept is the sugar-coated brainchild of a former Barbie marketing director and a video game entrepreneur. This month, the boutique candy store simultaneously opened not one, but two gleaming 1,200-square-foot storefronts in San Francisco’s Union Square and Cow Hollow neighborhoods (its first brick-and-mortar opened in Beverly Hills in 2013). The outposts will diversify San Francisco’s recent sweets craze by going beyond kouign-amanns and almond croissants. Sugarfina will offer its signature gimmicky (but endearing!) “bento boxes,” which can be filled with favorite sweets from Sugarfina’s selection of 150 rare candies from around the world.
