If you feel lake-addicted after Bishoftu and Hora, follow the road to the north past the Defence Engineering College and Agriculture Research Centre until you reach a fork marked by a painted ‘Galilee Center’ sign. Continue straight to Lake Babogaya (formerly named Bishoftu Guda), with its beautiful backdrop of volcanic Mt Yerer, or turn right to little Lake Kuriftu .
Shallow Lake Chelekleka , 2km west of the roundabout, is not a crater lake and lacks the dramatic scenery of the others. But it’s a birdwatcher favourite and lesser flamingos are sometimes seen.
