Straggling between Km279 and Km281 at Srinagar’s southern limits, dusty Pampore is India’s saffron capital. In October the violet crocuses, whose yellow stamens produce the saffron, bloom colourfully around Km276, but in summer you'll see nothing but dusty fields.
