Gitgit Waterfall

Gitgit Waterfall is not only one of the most well-known attractions in Bali, but is also considered to be the most beautiful waterfall on the island. Those who want to visit Gitgit on their journey through Bali, will also find the cascade to be easily accessible. Just off the road between Singaraja and Denpasar, a narrow hiking path disappears into the forest, leading past a small ticket booth, rice fields, clove trees, coffee shrubs and a couple stalls selling drinks, sarongs and souvenirs. From carvings and crafts to t-shirts and postcards, everything a tourist’s heart may or may not desire is available.
After following the loud roar of the waterfall on a short hike through the forest, you can see the water tumbling and splashing its way over 35 meters into a ravine in the green jungle foliage. However, before the water gets funneled into small streams and disappears into the impenetrable rainforest landscape, it forms a small pool where visitors can cool off and go for a swim. While the small natural basin provides welcome refreshment for many after marching through the humid jungle, couples should be cautious. A local Balinese superstition says that if partners get into the water together, it means the end of their love and thus, a break up is imminent.

Practical Info

Gitgit Waterfall is located in northern Bali, about 10 kilometers from Singaraja and just off the road which crosses the island from Singaraja in the north to Denpasar in the south. The parking lot can be found outside the village with the same name, from where the waterfall can be reached in about 10 minutes via a hike through the jungle on a small, but well-built path.
