For an outing that will show you a bit of town, visit the leaking palace of Pontianak's first sultan on the east bank of the Kapuas. Nearby, the wooden Mesjid Abdurrahman stands where a cannonball reportedly landed after the sultan fired it at a pontianak (the ghost of a woman who died during childbirth). Explore the surrounding village on stilts for a glimpse into the city's past. Get there by canoe taxi (2000Rp regular, 10,000Rp charter) from the foot of Jl Mahakam.
